It is with profound sadness that the family of David A. Barnickle, 71, announces his passing on Monday, July 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He also faced Parkinson's disease for the past seven years with dignity and grace.

Born in Astoria, Queens, New York, on July 24, 1953, to John and Una Barnickle.

David lived a life marked by service and compassion. He graduated from St. John's University with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 1977, he relocated to Alexandria, Virginia, where he joined the Alexandria Police Department, dedicating 31 years of his life to the force, followed by an additional 10 years serving with the FBI. Dave was a true public servant, known as a "cop's cop" who loved his job and treated everyone with respect. His wonderful sense of humor and razor-sharp wit made him a delight to be around.

David is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Mary; his two sons, David and Matthew; his daughter-in-law, Ashley; and his two cherished grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of commitment, strength, and kindness. He is also survived by his brother, Jack (John) Barnickle, and his wife, Val, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Robin Danks (Tim).

A memorial Mass will be held in his honor at St. Raymond of Peñafort Church in Springfield, Virginia, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the church.
