Charles Donald Maeby, age 88, of Ocean View, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Donald, as he was known by all, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and dedication that touched all who knew him.

Born in Baltimore, MD, on August 5, 1937, Donald was the son of Samuel Alexander Maeby and Mary Elizabeth (Coker) Maeby, both of whom predeceased him.

Donald was a dedicated professional, working for many years as a machinist at Machinecraft in Baltimore and plant manager at Demco in Milford, from where he eventually retired. However, it was in his community and church that his true character shone. A long-time member of the Inverness Presbyterian Church in Dundalk, MD, he continued his commitment to faith and service as a devoted member of Millville United Methodist Church in Millville, DE after moving to Delaware in the early 1990s. There, he served in a variety of capacities, offering his time, talents, and wisdom to his fellow congregants.

After the passing of his beloved wife, Jane, in 2012, Donald found great comfort in his friendship with Charlie Wyckoff. Together, they shared the journey of widowhood, supporting one another through their grief and finding joy in simple pleasures—whether it was sharing a meal or attending church functions.

In addition to his work in the church, Donald was a beloved member of the Cheer Center in Ocean View, where he attended regularly to play cards and spend time with friends. He was known for his good humor and love of companionship.  Donald also found joy in following his favorite sports teams. He was an ardent supporter of the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens, and many cherished moments were spent watching the games with family and friends.

Above all, Donald will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He had a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and an unwavering faith that guided him through life's challenges. His kindness, generosity, and loyalty were felt deeply by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane in 2012 and a brother, George Daniel Maeby in 1988.  He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Taylor and her husband, Barry Taylor, Jr. of Stewartstown, PA; a son, Samuel Alexander Maeby and his wife, Susan Hafler of Old Lyme, CT and two grandsons, Alexander Cochran and Ian Maeby.

We find comfort in knowing that Donald is now in the presence of his Lord, where there is no more pain, only peace and joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.  He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, September 5, 2025 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970.  A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Millville United Methodist Church, 36405 Club House Rd., Millville, DE 19967.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Donald's name to the Millville United Methodist Church at the above address.
