It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Betty Jean Long, who died on August 20, 2026 to join her beloved husband, David who preceded her in death on August 22, 2024.

Betty was born to Chester and Ida McCabe on February 7, 1931, in Selbyville, DE. She grew up on McCabe Street with her brothers, Layton and Dean McCabe and a sister, Sara Mitchell that have all preceded her in death. Betty attended Temple University and earned a degree in dental hygiene.

She married her husband, David James Long in July of 1953 and two years later had her twins, David and Dawn. She dedicated her life to her family and loved her grandsons beyond measure. She is survived by her twins, David James Long, Jr. and his wife, Beth of Ocean View, DE and Dawn Barnes and her husband, Terry of Bedford, PA; three grandsons, David J. Long, III, Ben Barnes and Andy Barnes and four great granddaughters, Summer, Courtney, Hunter and Remi.

The family would like to thank the wonderful women who took exceptional care of Betty, Lakisha, Mel, Felicia and Lori.

Mom never thought in terms of herself, only of others. She loved her garden, fishing, cooking, traveling and spoiling her pets. Rest in peace mom, we love you.

A visitation will be held from 3-4 PM on Monday August 31, 2026 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970.
