Allan Capon, age 68 passed away March 5, 2025 from esophageal cancer. Allan led a life full of adventure, travel, and meaningful connections. His journey took him from Greenock, Scotland to various parts of the world, where he made a lasting impact on those he met.

Allan was born in Scotland to Albert Capon and Margaret Gerrow. His father was a 30-year veteran of the Royal Navy. Allan's world travels began at ages 6-7 when his father was posted to Hong Kong. Back in Greenock, Allan left school at sixteen to work for the local shipyard. Starting out with the unglamourous job of sweeping out submarines and ending in the finance department. Towards the end of his ten years there, Allan was given the opportunity to receive training in computer programming. This led him to a job in Saudi Arabia where he eventually became the Head of Design and Analysis for the Royal Saudi Navy. From there he took a job in Munich with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. His various positions there also allowed him to live in Washington D.C. and Prague. When he left that job, he was the IT Director for the whole of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Allan's career also included various Y2K consulting jobs, working for a global call center company in Brussels with his best friend Nersi, and eventually ending up back in the states where he and his wife Veronika decided to raise their two sons, Andrew and Anthony. Allan ended his career with stints in a couple of technology consulting companies, the last one where he was leading large IT projects for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Allan and Veronika amicably parted ways in 2012 and in 2013 he met his current wife, Jean. They quickly realized that they wanted to be together for the rest of their lives and got married in 2016 on the beach in Bethany, one of their favorite places to escape to while living in Northern Virginia. In 2022, they made Ocean View their permanent home. During their twelve years together Allan and Jean lived a life abundantly full of joy, happiness, love and travels. Despite the cancer diagnosis six years into their relationship, they never stopped living their best lives. Just a few months before Allan passed away, they were in London celebrating his 68th birthday while visiting his son Andrew.

Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2019, Allan faced his illness with determination, a positive attitude and humor. Some treatments slowed him down periodically, but he continued his travels and projects and never took some of the dire prognoses he received along the way seriously.

Allan is remembered for his kindness, resilience, love for travel, DIY projects, and his passion for his beloved English Premier League football team, Manchester United. Allan was known for his epic TO DO lists and his ability to quickly and efficiently accomplish every item . . . just in time to make another one! He was a man who thrived on being busy. He will also be remembered for his charming Scottish accent. One could listen to him talk for hours!

Allan's memory will live on in his wife Jean (Mewshaw), his sons Andrew and Anthony Capon, step-sons Julian and James Barber, step-grandson Easton Barber, brother Douglas (Linda) Capon, sister Val Shepherd, nieces Roslyn (David) Murray, Lorna (Alan) Bryceland, Laura (Andrew) Shepherd, and nephew David Shepherd, his large extended families and the multitude of friends he met along the way. He inspired every one of us.

A celebration of Allan's life was held on Friday, March 14 at 4:00pm at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE, where friends and family gathered for visitation at 3:30pm.
